A Progressive Looks at God and the GOP

For John, BLUFStick to Drudge.  Nothing to see here; just move along.

Today I picked up our dead tree edition of The New Yorker, 9 February issue.  The lead in "Talk of the Town" was a Comment on "God and the GOP."

It seems to me, even with Governor Mitt Romney out of the race there is still an embarrassment of riches for the GOP.  In fact, there are so many potential candidates that the MSM keeps forgetting about Governor Scott Walker, notwithstanding his good showing in straw polls in fly-over country.  And, The New Yorker, in listing possible Roman Catholics in the list of Republican potentials totally forgot Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.

The New Yorker writer was trying to set up a conflict between Pope Francis and the Catholic candidates.  One would normally think that a bien-pensant publication like The New Yorker would be looking skeptically at a Catholic Pontiff.  Such is not the case, but that seems to be because they can use the Pope to beat up the GOP hopefuls.

Do you think this qualifies as BenSmithing?

"still an embarrassment of riches"? I didn't know you went in for humor, even though I know that you do have a wonderful sense of humor.

The number of folks milling around or getting mentioned.  The Democrats have four, Hillary, the Gov of Maryland, the former GOPer and Senator from Virginia and E Warren.  Besides Mitt, who could still be drafted, there is Chris Christie, Jeb, Perry, Cruz, Paul, Rubio, Mr Scott, Bobby and even Nikki.  Then there is Mike and Sarah.  And Santoro.  Three times the number.

ERROR:   I mentioned former GLTHS Superintendant Mary Jo Santoro, when I meant former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.
