Watch What You Say About Weight

For John, BLUFSilent Cal may be the new model.  Nothing to see here; just move along.

From someone at The Washington Post, Ms Ruth Marcus, we have this:
"And by the way, for politicians of both parties, might I suggest that weight is the new rape. It's really a bad idea to talk about," Ruth Marcus said on Meet The Press. She was referring to Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comments that torpedoed his candidacy in 2012.
As the article notes, it is still OK to mock New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for his weight.  Probably because he is from New Jersey, but maybe because he is a male.

The problem is, this kind of thing leads to People thinking the Main Stream Media is run by hypocrites.  This, in turn, reduces readership. This, in turn makes it harder to get the news out.  This, in turn, allows for the echo chamber like situation in current political discussion.

Hat tip to the Instapundit.

We are hypocrites! Smoking kills people sooner because it has been shown to lead to lung cancer. Obesity kills people sooner because it leads to high blood pressure, higher cholesterol, and diabetes (which itself can cause blindness, dementia, kidney failure). It should NOT be a weight issue, we should focus on being HEALTHY.

We have smoke free restaurants because second hand smoke kills….well so does second hand obesity. How often do obese mothers and fathers have obese children? We need to go back to considering obesity as an ILLNESS which is HEALED by behavioral changes we make in our lives….just like not smoking. That said, I am overweight even classified as obese, but I recognize I am unhealthy. I want to be able to move as freely as I did when I was a kid. When being able to move was as easy as it was to envision the motion.

Mobility characterizes youth, and thinness. Focus more on moving and less on eating. Small changes, baby steps, cruising, walking then running. Manage exercise like you would manage other pain in life, do what you can, rest and do more again when you are able. Use exercise as an anti-depressant and a manifestation of your ability to control your body and environment.

Set aside one day a week when you can eat and will eat anything you want. The other six days eat a moderate 2000 calorie diet. That is how I lost 140 pounds in a year and how I have kept it off for the last 9 years.
