Dressing Appropriately

For John, BLUFDress for success.

Dressing appropriately seems to have become somewhat of a lost art.

Dapper District has this line...

... dressing respectfully for the occasion is more a matter of communicating that you have amply prepared for it ...
If you show up for a meeting with some government body or government bureaucrat, paying taxes or traffic tickets aside, or you are going to a bank (or credit union) and you have a nice shirt and a tie, you suggest that you are taking this seriously and you would appreciate it if others understood this, and reciprocated.  It works.  It doesn't mean that you have knuckled under to The Man.  It does suggest that you see yourself as a serious person and wish to be treated as such.

Is this because I show up to the License Commission meetings in shorts and T-shirts? ;-)

Yes, mistaking pragmatism (taking advantage of the benefits of making a positive impression) for "knuckling under" only hurts the would-be iconoclast. I even shave for work-related meetings both because I appreciate the paycheck, as well as the distinction that becoming a "suit" has nothing to do with judiciously choosing to wear one.

....unless it is a tie that you got for Christmas.......or one that wants to make some sort of arcane statement. Philosophically...though not too seriously.....one wonders about the intellect of men who rise each morning during the week and in the process of dressing themselves for the day's commerce...tie a noose around their neck......hey...just walkin' the dog.......

Because I'm home most days, when I do get a chance to go out/meeting I find myself over dressed for the occasion.

I didn't wear shorts today at Mass.
