Cheap DNA Testing

Over at the PJ Tatler, we have a discussion on the falling price of DNA tests:
The cost of sequencing complete human genomes has been falling by about a factor of 30 per year over the last six years, the JASONs said.  As a result, “it is now possible to order your personal genome sequenced today for a retail cost of under ~$20,000″ compared to around $300 million a decade ago.  “This cost will likely fall to less than $1,000 by 2012, and to $100 by 2013.”
Per the PJ Tatler an outfit known as JASON MITRE Corporation has proposed that the DoD begin gathering DNA for all people who put on the uniform, looking “to determine which phenotypes… have special relevance to military performance and medical cost containment”.  In a couple of years the price will be right.

Why do that, if not to start selecting recruits based upon their phenotypes?

The fact is we have been here before, with Darwin's cousin Francis Galton, who developed the idea of eugenics, based upon his reading of Darwin's theory of evolution.

What could possibly go wrong?

Hat tip to the Instapundit.

Hi Cliff, I saw the city is offering some great programs thru Parks and Recreation and thought you might wanna post to spread the word. One of my daughters is playing the "free" indoor hockey and loves it. The staff is fantastic too!

Corey, you just did.  I will look into it a bit further and maybe put out a separate blog post.
