The EU

Google says the EU requires a notice of cookie use (by Google) and says they have posted a notice. I don't see it. If cookies bother you, go elsewhere. If the EU bothers you, emigrate. If you live outside the EU, don't go there.

Crisis on South Campus

being a student at UMass Lowell I get occasional TEST Txt Messages.
This is a TEST of the UMass Lowell Emergency Notification System.  No action required.  If this were an actual emergency you would receive specific incident info
Right.  Without the full stop at the end of the last sentence.

Fair enough.  It is a good way to tell us that we are having a snow day.  The use of the word "emergency" is also OK.  However, there is also a phone message and there the word "crisis"is used.  I think "crisis" is a little over the top.  If North Korea resumes shelling of South Korea and sustains it we have a crisis.  If someone torches off a nuclear device in the US we have a crisis.  If Katie Couric has a "wardrobe malfunction" we might have a crisis.  I just can't imagine a "crisis" at UMass Lowell.  The closest we have come to a crisis at UMass Lowell was when all the books from the library on South Campus were sent to North Campus and we have endured a semester in that ridiculous configuration and we seem to have all survived.

Emergency—yes.
Crisis—no.

Some may regard the performance of this year's UML men's hockey team as in somewhat of a crisis...
